How are Real Madrid in the Champions League final?
Even Zinedine Zidane is probably asking himself that very question on Wednesday morning.
Real have reached their fourth Champions League final in five years after scraping past Bayern Munich 4-3 on aggregate in the last-four.
It wasn’t quite the dramatic victory that we saw against Juventus in the quarter-finals but, once again, Los Blancos seemed to do just enough to progress.
Ok, so Zidane’s side might have had to face Tottenham, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Juventus and now Bayern to reach the final in Kiev but they’ve certainly benefited from a huge slice of luck during their run.
There was plenty of controversy surrounding their last-minute penalty against Juve and they were very fortunate not to concede at least two spot-kicks against Bayern at the Bernabeu – not to mention the heroics from Keylor Navas that kept them in the tie.
And when you consider the fact they’re a whole 15 points behind Barcelona in La Liga, you start to doubt whether this Madrid side is really that great.
LAMPARD GAVE HIS HONEST ASSESSMENT OF MADRID
That might sound ridiculous considering they’re on the verge of winning their third consecutive Champions League but Madrid have been far from convincing this season.
One man that definitely isn’t convinced is Frank Lampard.
He was speaking on BT Sport after Madrid squeezed past Bayern and his assessment of this Madrid side was very honest.
“This isn’t the Real Madrid of the last few years,” Lampard claimed.
