Ousmane Dembele has endured a difficult start to life at the Camp Nou since his big-money arrival in August last year, with injuries plaguing his first few months at the club.
The 20-year-old has now admitted he tried to remain as relaxed as possible amid his troubled start, and claimed he always felt he would one day be in the same team as Messi.
“I concentrated on trying to be calm, I thought that it was better to have the injury at the start of the season than later on, when there are big games,” he said, according to Marca.
“I have fought hard to be where I am now and I knew that I would play with Messi one day.”
Dembele is yet to score for his new employers, but has set up four goals in 11 matches for the Blaugrana.
The Frenchman was unable to make a difference when he was brought on in Barca’s 1-1 draw with Las Palmas in LaLiga on Thursday night, though.
