The Brazilian has long been touted as the heir to club legend Andres Iniesta’s playmaker role in midfield.
And Barcelona finally managed to snare him this month after Liverpool agreed to sell their talisman for a whopping £142m.
Coutinho made his debut in Thursday night’s Copa del Rey showdown with Espanyol, coming on as a second-half substitute for Iniesta in the 2-0 win.
The latest reports suggest it’s not Iniesta that’s feeling threatened by the 25-year-old’s move to Barcelona though.
According to Spanish outlet Diario Gol, Coutinho and fellow big-money buy Ousmane Dembele are not on speaking terms.
Both players were snapped up in the wake of Neymar’s world-record £200m departure to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain.
Dembele has endured a slow start at Barcelona due to injuries though and it seems his worries have been compounded by Coutinho’s arrival.
The fact that Coutinho can play on the left side of a front three, Dembele’s favoured position, as well as deeper is an issue for the Frenchman.
Dembele is apparently aware that his chances of nailing down a starting spot could be hampered by Antoine Griezmann’s potential summer switch from Atletico Madrid too.
The only solace the former Borussia Dortmund man can take at the moment is that Coutinho’s taken away the pressure of being the most expensive signing in Barcelona history.
However, Diario Gol indicate that’s not enough for Dembele to put aside their rivalry and forge a relationship
