There’s no denying that Paul Pogba is a magnificent footballer and one of the best midfielders in the world on his day.
Manchester United broke the world transfer record to re-sign the France international from Juventus in August 2016, shelling out a cool £89.3 million, and he’s delivered some stunning performance for the Red Devils since then.

But there are games, as Paul Scholes pointed out in December, when you’re left thinking ‘he could do so much more’.
Unfortunately, this was the case during United’s 2-0 defeat against Tottenham at Wembley on Wednesday night.

Pogba produced a disappointing performance alongside Nemanja Matic and was duly subbed off for Juan Mata by Jose Mourinho in the 63rd minute.

Mourinho needed a big performance from his most expensive player but the 24-year-old failed to produce the goods.
The two men were seen in conversation on the touchline and Mourinho clearly unhappy with Pogba’s performance.
It came as little surprise when he was hooked soon after.

LAMPARD MADE A GREAT POINT ABOUT POGBA

Following the match, Frank Lampard and Rio Ferdinand discussed Pogba’s performance.
Lampard made a point that many people were in complete agreement with…
“Pogba’s got so many great forward-thinking attributes – athleticism, ability on the ball, can find a pass – but if he’s being asked to do that job today next to Matic, he has to do that with complete responsibility,” the Chelsea legend said.
“He has to take one on the chin and I didn’t see him have that defensive awareness. That’s why [Mourinho] brought him off early because he’s one of his prime players.”

Asked if Pogba wanted to play his own game, rather than carry out Mourinho’s instructions, Lampard added: “We’ve all been there as a midfield player and I had it loads during my career with managers asking me to have more discipline – you have to try and take it onboard.
“When you’re [facing] a team where there are lots of threats around you, you have to think ‘what is happening around me?’ Not just when we get the ball
