Manchester United boss Mourinho is feeling the strain of life at Old Trafford with the Red Devils stuck in a rut just two games into the new Premier League season.
The 55-year-old’s combative mood has done little to lift spirits in and around the club, with links to Zinedine Zidane intensifying by the week.
Zidane supposedly expects to be offered the Manchester United job should Mourinho be axed.
Yet the Manchester Evening News suggest the Portuguese will not be going anywhere anytime soon.
The Glazer family care about success on the pitch - but long gone are the days where the title was the No 1 goal.
Instead, the MEN suggest they will be happy with Mourinho should he steer them to a Champions League spot.
United pride themselves on being a money-making juggernaut and received £36million for playing in just eight European matches last term.
The Glazer family need that cash to balance the books and, if Mourinho guides them to a top four spot, then he will likely stay.
History suggests, though, that failure will lead to his head rolling.
In 2014, the Glazers put David Moyes out of his misery after a torrid 10-month spell in charge.
Under Moyes, United finished seventh and the Scot was sacked and replaced by Ryan Giggs once Champions League qualification became impossible.
It was a similar story two years later.
Louis van Gaal divided fans but did deliver the FA Cup trophy during his time in charge.
Mourinho replaced the Dutchman, however, after United finished fifth in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Jamie Carragher thinks no top team would take Mourinho if he fails at Old Trafford.
The Sky Sports pundit said: “If Mourinho leaves United at some stage this season - and I believe they will have a new coach a year from now - what big job can he expect next?
“Of course he will still be one of the world's most esteemed and coveted coaches, but his next club position would have to be in the tier just below the current elite.
“He would have to go somewhere seeking to rebuild, trying to catch-up, rather than one where the foundations are in place and he can target the world's most expensive players.
“No other team in the Premier League's top six would pursue him. Real Madrid and Barcelona are no longer realistic options, nor Juventus. I don't believe PSG would take him at the moment.
“It would be a different profile of role, back to those he had at the start of his career when he was in Portugal.”
