Sergio Ramos has weighed in on the controversial guard of honour row between Real Madrid and their arch-rivals FC Barcelona.
With seven matches of the season remaining in LaLiga, there is a possibility the Blaugrana will have the league trophy wrapped up before the next El Clasico, which would mean Los Blancos owe them the gesture as per tradition.
However, Zinedine Zidane stated last week that there is no way he would allow his team to give Barcelona a guard of honour, and now Ramos has had his say on the matter.
“Not performing a guard of honour doesn’t mean we don’t respect Barcelona,” he said after Real’s 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu on the weekend.
“I’ve always said that we’ll do what the coach tells us to.
“People put too much value on the guard of honour. If the boss has said no, then we have to respect him.”
