REAL MADRID boss Zinedine Zidane fancies swooping for Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante, it has been claimed.
According to Spanish publication Don Balon, Zidane has asked Real Madrid president Florentino Perez to launch a bid for Kante when the summer transfer window opens.
It is claimed Los Blancos’ head coach plans to use the French ace alongside Casemiro as part of a deep-lying two-man midfield next term.
Kante is reportedly not the first Chelsea player Zidane has asked for.
Don Balon say Zidane, who is likely to keep his job at the Bernabeu if he lands the Champions League for the third year in a row, has already issued a request to Perez for Eden Hazard.
Real Madrid are reportedly not the only team taking a fancy to Kante, who is under contract at Stamford Bridge for another three seasons.
But, speaking last month, he rejected the speculation about a return to his homeland.
“I am at home,” Kante said. “It is my club, I am a Chelsea player.
This is my second year at Chelsea. After what happened last season, it was a very good one for us because we got to celebrate winning the title.
“In the second season, I have got to play in the Champions League and we are going again to finish in the top four.
“We will fight until the end to finish in the top four and to get in a Champions League position.
“We also have the FA Cup to play for - it is a good competition. Last season we failed in the final. It is the only trophy we can win this season, so we have to give everything to get to the final and win it.”
Kante was a relative unknown when Leicester snapped him up from Caen in 2015 but he quickly established himself as one of English football’s leading players.
He helped the Foxes to their unlikely Premier League title win before joining Chelsea.
Kante repeated the trick at Stamford Bridge last term and won the PFA Player of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season in the process.
He also came eighth in last year’s Ballon d’Or vote
Former Arsenal forward Paul Merson believes Manchester City need Kante if they are to crack the Champions League.
“Kante is exactly the type City need,” Merson told the Daily Star. “He gets around the pitch, so well he’s like two players in one, and he’s a winner.
“It’s no coincidence he won back-to-back titles with Leicester and then Chelsea. He’s the type of player who gets going under pressure, who thrives on it.
