Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has overtaken longstanding rival Lionel Messi in the goalscoring chart for the first time this season.
The Portuguese netted both goals in his side’s tightly contested 2-1 win over Eibar on Saturday.
The two strikes took Ronaldo’s overall tally for the current campaign to 33 goals across all competitions.
One more than Messi, who missed FC Barcelona’s latest game after becoming a father for a third time on Saturday.

Ronaldo has scored his 33 goals in just 34 appearances this season, averaging 0.97 goals per game, while Messi needed 41 matches to reach his tally of 32, at a rate of 0.78 goals per game.
The 33-year-old’s revival in form has been impressive, particularly in LaLiga, in which he scored just four goals in the first half of the season.
However, he has now found the back of the net 14 times in his past eight appearances in the second half of the campaign, and sits on 18 strikes overall in the Spanish top flight.
Only Messi, with 24 goals, and Luis Suarez, with 21 strikes, remain ahead of the in-form Los Blancos talisman in the race for the Pichichi title, given to LaLiga’s top goalscorer at the end of the campaign.
