REAL MADRID star Cristiano Ronaldo thinks Lionel Messi is stopping
Barcelona from signing a replacement for Luis Suarez, reports say.
Suarez has struggled for Barcelona so far this season, managing to score
just three goals across all competitions despite the La Liga giants
enjoying a fine start to the campaign.
As a result, transfer talk has emerged that the Catalan giants could be
set to replace him with Atletico Madrid hitman Antoine Griezmann at the
end of the season.
But Spanish website Diario Gol says Ronaldo has now unearthed new
information about Suarez and his Barcelona team-mate.
The 32-year-old supposedly thinks Messi is stopping Barcelona from
investing in a new centre-forward out of fear what it could mean for
Suarez’s future.
At the age of 30, the Uruguay international is approaching the twilight
years of his career.
And Diario Gol say Barcelona chiefs are seriously considering whether to
cut him loose at the end of the campaign.
That decision is reportedly not solely down to the player’s poor form.
They also want younger blood in order to ensure they continue to
dominate both domestic and European football for years to come.
However, Ronaldo thinks Messi is stopping the Catalan giants from
adding to their ranks.
Meanwhile, Suarez has admitted he cannot understand why he has not
been scoring goals galore for Barcelona this season.
"I've been asking why the ball doesn't want to go in," the former Liverpool
star said earlier this week.
"It's not anxiety, if I was anxious, I would get the ball near the half-way
line and try to go round three, four or five players and I would be
shooting all the time."
Suarez will be aiming to score when Barcelona go up against Leganes
next Saturday (3.15pm).
