And when asked for his thoughts about Argentina’s next opponents, Messi said: “We have watched every France game - we have watched every game of this World Cup.
“France are a very good side with skilled players, very fast players who can really make a difference
Argentina coach Jorge Sampaoli reserved special praise for Messi after the game.
He said: “Every time Lionel Messi plays he shows that he is a fantastic player, above everybody else, but he needs support from his team-mates.
“Only then will he play at his best, like he did most of the time today.

“It's important he shares those feelings. Many people say Leo does not enjoy playing for Argentina, but I don't agree."
